The most powerful examples of Steamboat’s impact continue to be the Scholars themselves. Whether they’re still on campus completing their undergraduate education, pursuing advanced degrees, or making a difference in the work world, alumni represent Steamboat’s values – integrity, work ethic, and risk-taking – and do so not just for themselves, but to benefit the world they are going to change.
Long after the summer ends, Steamboat alumni continue to remain in close contact with each other and with the Foundation. Steamboat hosts several alumni events each year that bring Scholars together to socialize and continue to build community. Ninety-seven percent of Scholars remain engaged with the Foundation.
Steamboat also encourages its alumni to apply for Special Grants, giving Scholars the means to apply the lessons learned about leadership and risk-taking to an inspired commitment to public service.

Scholars and alumni share and interact at the 2008 workshop in Boston.
To promote alumni involvement and to help the Scholars transition into senior year and the job or graduate school application process, in Steamboat piloted the first alumni-led Professional Development workshop in 2008, hosted at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, for the current Scholars.
A panel of nine alumni introduced themselves and shared their individual experiences in regards to applying to graduate or medical school, job interviews, and preparing for a career. After hearing the panel speak, the Scholars broke out into small group discussions and gave informed feedback on the Scholars' resumes and career interests. The Scholars and alumni were encouraged to stay in touch and to form offline connections in addition to Foundation sponsored events.
The Scholars learned a great deal about what the alumni went through and received individualized guidance, and the alumni all voiced their support for the Scholars and how much they also learned in the process.
