Summer Scholar Program

Selection Process

Through a highly selective and rigorous process, a group of remarkable undergraduate students are chosen annually as “Steamboat Scholars,” a designation that recognizes the talent, passion, and curiosity of the award recipients. Each year, a single Scholar is selected from the junior class of a University Partner to participate in the corresponding internship experience with Steamboat's Grant Partners. Since 2004, Steamboat has selected 46 Scholars from an impressive applicant pool of nearly 700 talented students hailing from a range of colleges and universities.

Each year, the Selection Process begins in the fall and the new class of Scholars is announced by early May of the following year. Generally, Scholars participate in Steamboat during the summer between their junior and senior years in college. Prospective Scholars pass through three rigorous rounds of application, review, and selection, and must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate interest and accomplishment in their specific field of interest
  • Demonstrate leadership and academic promise
  • Demonstrate financial need
