In 2009, Steamboat made a two-year commitment to a new Special Grantee, Starfish Greathearts Foundation, an international charity responding to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in South Africa.

In 2009, Steamboat partnered with Harvard Medical School and made its first Special Grant to a Steamboat Scholar, Ben Nwachukwu, to extend his studies and observe the practice of orthopedics at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in his home country of Nigeria.

In 2008, Steamboat made a three-year commitment to its second grantee, Partners In Health, an organization founded in 1987 by Dr. Paul Farmer, Jim Kim and Ophelia Dahl, dedicated to addressing global health inequities and social injustice.

In 2004, Steamboat Foundation made a multi-year commitment to Right To Play, a humanitarian organization lead by President and CEO Johann Olav Koss, to fund a sports program for impoverished children in Rwanda.
