Facing History and Ourselves & Harvard College

Each year, one Steamboat Scholar is selected from the junior class at Harvard College to join the team at Facing History and Ourselves, an international education non-profit organization.

As the sole intern in the Evaluation Department, the Scholar partners with the Director of Evaluation, the Director of Administration, and other team members on several critical evaluation projects. Facing History utilizes these evaluations to make decisions about the direction of its innovative programs.

With a mission to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism and prejudice, Facing History helps students make the essential connection between history and the moral choices they confront in their own lives. Known for its quality programs, Facing History reaches an estimated 1.6 million students annually through its network of 23,000 educators around the globe, while providing the community and the broader education market with timely and relevant resource materials. In addition to delivering content and services to educators through traditional face-to-face workshops and institutes, Facing History has been on the cutting edge in its use of the Internet to further extend its reach and impact.
