Scholar Background

From performing on stage to writing music reviews, Veronica has always been involved in Communications. It was just in the last couple years that she discovered a passion for all things radio. As a guest panelist on a call-in trivia show, Veronica realized she loved being on air and began learning more about the production and development behind it. Two years later, as the current Production, Web Content and Public Relations Director at campus radio station WJPZ, Veronica has worked in all facets of radio, from planning the 25th annual Alumni Banquet to voicing commercials. When she’s not in-studio, Veronica writes for campus publications like the Student Voice and Medusa Magazine, and functions as a copy editor for What the Health Magazine and The Out Crowd. She is also a Career Advocate in the campus’ Career Development Center and a waitress at Uno Chicago Grill. With the bit of down time she has, Veronica likes to search for new music, cook, and read a good book.

Internship Description

Over the summer, Veronica was able to explore every facet of the radio industry, running the gamut from on-air to sales to programming and all the way back to production. Veronica was on-air with the number one rated Scott and Todd in the Morning and also produced highlight reels for the show. During her time with Scott and Todd, Veronica was able to meet with Sarah McLachlan. In WPLJ programming, she sat in on record meetings to learn exactly how a new single goes from concept to being #1 on the charts and voiced a commercial for a national company. She also filled in as a sales assistant for WPLJ, coordinating winners, creating contracts, and even going on a sales call with a head Account Executive. In Digital sales, Veronica worked on high-level accounts, creating visually striking presentations and reformatting the new PLJ pets.

Where are they now?

Veronica is currently an assistant media planner at Maxus, which is part of Group M.
