Shannon is a senior at Syracuse University, pursuing a dual degree in Communications & Rhetorical Studies and Television, Radio & Film. As a freshman, Shannon became a production assistant at Syracuse’s student-owned and operated radio station, WJPZ 89.1 FM. Since then, she has fallen in love with radio and has taken on roles such as on-air host, Promotions Director, and Program Director. In her pursuit of a radio career, Shannon has interned with WILV 100.3 FM in Chicago and with the Totally 70’s Channel at Sirius-XM Satellite Radio. When not in the studio, Shannon performs as a member of Syracuse’s student-run dance company, Danceworks. She was awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
This summer, Shannon had the opportunity to work at WPLJ and WABC Radio where she assisted in many different projects between the sales, digital, and programming departments. Shannon had two fantastic mentors in Steve Borneman, President and General Manager of ABC Radio and Linda Wnek, Diversity and Recruitment Coordinator, but she also found willing and able mentors in each member of the staff with whom she worked. Shannon had the opportunity to work in multiple departments throughout the summer, an opportunity that is unique to the Steamboat partnership with WPLJ/WABC. Shannon interacted directly with upper management on a daily basis, and not just to observe. Just one of the many highlights from Shannon’s summer was sitting in the studio overlooking the city, listening to the radio and realizing that, in that moment, thousands of people were experiencing a product that she had helped create.
Shannon is currently studying abroad in Madrid and will finish her senior year at Syracuse in June 2010.
