Sara decided to give journalism a try after wandering around the student center freshman year and discovering the Daily Northwestern office. Since then she has worked for the Chicago Tribune, NBC and the New Haven Register. She most recently worked as managing editor of the Weekly, the entertainment supplement inside of the Daily. She likes writing human interest pieces, though local politics and finances are fun too. While majoring in journalism at Northwestern University, Sara is also a member of the Division I fencing team. Sara volunteers with homeless children through the Chicago HOPES program and mentally disabled adults at a Jewish school in Northbrook, Ill. She is interested in educational policy and public school reform.
Sara pitched, reported, and wrote seventeen stories for the website and one story for the print edition. Some interviews included record executives, Cynthia Rowley, billionaire David Duffield, and several CEOs. She also created three graphics for the website, one of which was a multimedia graphic, and performed research for the Forbes 400 and the photo department, which included combing archives and creating photo slideshows for the website.
Sara is currently a 2011 Corps Member at Teach For America. She will be teaching special education at the Greenburgh Graham School in New York, which serves special needs students, some of whom have been placed through the juvenile detention system.
