As president of her high school student government and leadership delegate to the International World Leadership Congress in Washington, D.C., Rachel became a finalist for the Morehead-Cain, a full four-year scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill. As an undergrad, Rachel received several prestigious scholarships to study abroad, including the Singapore Immersion Scholarship, the Hillel Bina Initiative Israel Scholarship, and the James K. McLean Scholarship to study in an exchange program in Barcelona, Spain. These experiences allowed her to pursue and further develop her interest in international business. Rachel is also passionate about developing the leadership potential of other young people. She spent two summers at the Foundation for Teaching Economics Leadership seminar, first as a participant and then as a program coordinator. Through her involvements with UNC Choice and the Victory School for autistic children, Rachel has also dedicated herself to advocating for equality for people who are often misunderstood or misrepresented.
At Bloomberg, Rachel worked in the Opinions Team, assisting columnists with articles and projects with subjects ranging from politics to financial companies. She also enjoyed the challenge of researching and writing obituary articles. Rachel says of this experience, “Writing celebrity obituaries provided me with many difficult and fascinating lessons. I loved learning and communicating all I could about someone not only to celebrate the famous figure people know, but also to uncover the individual achievements that make a person real, all in 500 words or less.” Rachel also worked with other interns at Bloomberg’s London and Washington, D.C. offices to create a pilot television show that informs college students about various financial issues. Despite her inexperience in broadcast production, Rachel took on a leadership role within the project by preparing and editing a significant portion of the show’s content. This leadership experience provided her with valuable lessons on how to successfully manage a team despite unfamiliar circumstances.
After graduation, Rachel joined Bloomberg News full-time in its Financial Sales department.
