Kiara has always been a thinker, and so many of her peers and teachers were surprised that she chose fashion design as her subject of choice, instead of writing. Kiara, on the other hand, always knew that she wanted to be a designer. Kiara graduated high school a year early to pursue her goal at Parsons The New School for Design. In her first year at Parsons, she co-created the student-run Parsons Magazine, the longest running school-wide publication, during her freshman year. She has also won the YMA menswear scholarship and is currently a national Finalist for the Geoffrey Beene menswear scholarship. She is also working on a book about thinking critically about fashion design.
Kiara valued the time she spent living and interacting with other Steamboat Scholars. In addition, she was inspired by her work at Vineyard Vines. She worked on two independent projects: shirts for the Men’s and Women’s collections for Fall 2010 and a design pitch for a future Vineyard Vines' swimwear line. At the end of her internship, Kiara successfully presented her work to the Co-Founders of Vineyard Vines, Shep and Ian Murray, along with other Vineyard Vines staff and Steamboat executives.
Kiara is currently finishing her senior year at Parsons The New School for Design.
