Joyce is a senior at Medill at Northwestern University, with a double major in Journalism and International Relations, and a minor in Business. She worked for the campus newspaper for one year, launched STITCH, a successful student magazine/website in her freshman year, and was commissioned to launch a community magazine during her sophomore year. Joyce has also produced a short documentary-style program on young female entrepreneurs, which aired on public television in Hong Kong during a summer internship. Joyce has won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and a scholarship from the Association of Women Journalists, Chicago chapter.
At Forbes, Joyce worked under Senior Mentor, Tom Post, researching and reporting two stories for the print magazine, one on real estate and the gambling industry and the other on state budget deficits. She also worked with an online editor for the Leadership and Careers department, researching and reporting five stories for the website. Joyce also spent time in the Art department, mocking up webpages and performing regular legwork for the website using Adobe Photoshop. Lastly, she took on a social media project under a managing editor that outlined Forbes and its performance in social media, as well as areas for improvement.
Joyce was chosen to give the commencement address at the 152nd commencement exercises at Northwestern in June 2010. She is currently working for the Chicago bureau of Xinhua news, China's official news agency, and teaming up with a few journalists to launch Reporting Unlimited, an LLC that will deliver global reporting workshops and curricula to high schools around the country.
