Scholar Background

Jeanna Smialek is incredibly thankful for the opportunity to work with Bloomberg News through the Steamboat program this summer. Jeanna is an aspiring journalist and a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her time in college, Jeanna has experienced community journalism at the independent, student run Daily Tar Heel and political journalism through an internship with Hearst News Service in Washington, D.C.-- now, she cannot wait to work in business journalism while getting to know the diverse group of Steamboat scholars.

As City Editor at The Daily Tar Heel, Jeanna has lead coverage ranging from local elections to a murder trial. While at Hearst News Service, she covered Capitol Hill events, primarily for The Houston Chronicle's political blog and for the paper's print product. In her free time, Jeanna loves to run long-distance and bake. Academically, she enjoys studying international relations.
