Emily was undecided about her undergraduate major until she visited Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Growing up, Emily had always loved traveling and dining out with her family, and she realized a degree in Hotel Administration would allow her achieve her goal of providing the same exceptional service to others that she enjoyed receiving as a guest. At Cornell, Emily represents the School of Hotel Administration as a Hotel School Ambassador; she leads tours of the Hotel School, holds information sessions for prospective students, mentors first-year students, and hosts companies that visit the school. Emily is also a Teaching Assistant for the Hotel School’s Culinary Theory and Practice course.
In 2011, Emily spent her summer working at The Modern – Union Square Hospitality Group’s fine dining restaurant at The Museum of Modern Art. At The Modern, Emily experienced first-hand Danny Meyer’s concept of “Enlightened Hospitality”, to which she contributed through her work with training and development and social media for the restaurant. During her junior year of college, Emily continued to pursue her interest in fine food and art while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Emily is very much looking forward to working alongside Senior Mentor Randy Garutti this summer to strategically lead the Shake Shack brand.
