Scholar Background

Ever since she was given the chance to edit her high school paper, Caroline has known she wanted to work in the media industry. As a junior economics and political science major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Caroline has also developed a keen interest in the economic forces currently shaping the world.

She has written extensively for the State and National Desk of the Daily Tar Heel, reporting on everything from the presidential primaries to the UNC system. She also spent last summer interning for the Washington, DC-based news website, the Daily Caller. At Chapel Hill, Caroline participates in the Public Service Scholar program and enjoys staying involved with her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. In the fall of 2009, she traveled to Cape Town, South Africa in order to study African development and South African history. She also interned with Black Sash, a human rights nongovernmental organization.

When at home in Virginia, Caroline spends her free time working at J.Crew, blogging about style, and keeping up with Tar Heel athletics. As this year’s Steamboat Scholar at Bloomberg News, Caroline is thrilled to find an outlet for her twin interests in economics and writing. She looks forward to the exposure to the inner workings of financial journalism, as well as the opportunity to write about the economic challenges facing the country.
