Alex Kowalski is a journalism major at UNC-Chapel Hill. Always passionate about story-telling, he likes to explore the world and share what he sees with others. He has written a column and articles for UNC's paper, the Daily Tar Heel and many other publications, including Yankee Magazine and Congressional Quarterly. In 2009, he was a Knight Foundation Distinguished Scholar. Alex has become increasingly interested in how the news industry works, and hopes to be involved in shaping the future of this field. When he's not breaking the news, he's out rowing with the crew team or tasting new food he can write about on his blog, The Biscuit.
Alex worked for the real estate desk at Bloomberg, reporting on the housing market slump and residential and retail spaces in Manhattan. In addition to his interaction with Senior Mentor, Tom Keene, Alex enjoyed getting outside the Bloomberg office and onto the streets of the city for some reporting work: he invaded the boutiques of Madison Avenue, covertly explored a deceptively shoddy luxury apartment, and found out what people thought about Hoboken's corrupt mayor. Several of Alex’s stories were published or followed by other major news publications, including the New York Post.
Alex is currently interning on the Government Bonds/Foreign Currencies team at Bloomberg in New York.
